What Art Makes Visible

A Community Conversation with Humanities New York and Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, Isaías González-Soto Branch

The Isaías González-Soto Branch Library and Humanities New York invite you to a Community Conversation about public art and community life.

At the González-Soto Branch, we’ll use an image of the Roberto Clemente mural on Niagara Street as our anchor. We’ll consider its history and the community participation behind it. The mural will open a larger conversation about what public art can make present and how memory can shape the everyday landscape.

A Community Conversation invites participants to explore a shared image and listen to one another’s perspectives. No knowledge of art or local history is needed, and there is no advance preparation. Rachel Pitkin, Humanities New York’s Humanities Programs Specialist, will guide the discussion. Bring your curiosity and willingness to listen.
