Humanities New York (HNY) is seeking a proactive, organized, and curious Finance & Operations Coordinator Intern to join our team for the 2026-27 academic year.

Working directly with HNY's Director of Finance & Operations, you'll gain hands-on experience in nonprofit finance, operations, administration, and organizational management while helping strengthen the systems that support a statewide humanities organization. As a member of our small team, you'll contribute to projects ranging from budgeting, board administration, and organizational planning to technology, process improvement, and operational strategy.

This internship is intentionally designed as a professional development opportunity for students and emerging professionals interested in nonprofit operations. Throughout the year, you'll take on increasing responsibility, build tangible systems and processes, and leave with a portfolio of work that demonstrates your readiness for a career in nonprofit finance and operations. Working alongside HNY leadership, you'll tell the stories behind our statewide public humanities work through writing, interviews, photography, video, and strategic communications. You'll attend programs, interview participants and partners, develop multimedia storytelling campaigns, and help amplify the impact of conversations happening across New York.

This internship is intentionally designed as a professional development opportunity for aspiring journalists, writers, storytellers, and nonprofit communications professionals. Throughout the year, you'll build a portfolio of published articles, multimedia projects, and communications campaigns while developing the editorial, interviewing, and strategic communications skills needed for a career in journalism, media, or nonprofit communications. Working alongside HNY staff, you'll help document, organize, interpret, and share the knowledge generated through nearly fifty years of public humanities work. You'll contribute to digital scholarship, archives, evaluation, research, and knowledge management while helping strengthen initiatives like In Common, Community Conversations, and Reading & Discussion. Your work will help transform institutional knowledge into accessible resources that support practitioners, partners, and communities across New York.

This fellowship is intentionally designed as a professional development opportunity for graduate students and early-career professionals interested in digital public humanities, archives, public scholarship, and organizational learning. Throughout the year, you'll lead meaningful projects, create lasting digital resources, and build a portfolio of research, writing, evaluation, and public-facing scholarship that demonstrates your readiness for careers in public humanities, museums, libraries, nonprofits, and cultural institutions. You'll contribute to program planning, participant experience, facilitator support, partnerships, community outreach, and evaluation while helping deliver public humanities programs across New York State.

This fellowship is intentionally designed as a professional development opportunity for graduate students and early-career professionals ready to apply their knowledge in a real-world public humanities setting. Throughout the year, you'll take ownership of meaningful projects, deepen relationships with cultural and community partners, and build a portfolio of public programs, engagement strategies, and evaluation tools that demonstrate your readiness for careers in public humanities, museum education, nonprofit programming, and community engagement.
