How do communities survive rupture, and how do they shape what comes next?
A three-session Humanities Unbound reading and discussion series with Humanities New York and Ma’s House
Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice, Ma’s House’s selected text for Humanities Unbound, follows an Anishinaabe community in northern Ontario as a sudden loss of power and communication isolates its residents as winter approaches. As familiar systems begin to break down, they draw on inherited knowledge and one another. The novel considers what happens when the knowledge and relationships that sustain a community are put to the test.
Across three conversations, participants will return to the novel and give its questions time to develop. We’ll read closely and consider different perspectives, exploring how communities respond to rupture and how they imagine a future together.
