Humanities New York’s Community Conversations invite people across the state to gather for open dialogue grounded in short readings or images that spark reflection, empathy, and a deeper sense of shared purpose. As part of Banned Writers Unbound at the New York Public Library in October 2024, participants discussed Audre Lorde’s “The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action,” exploring how finding the courage to speak—despite fear—can strengthen both personal integrity and democratic life.
